Vettel was named the third driver for BMW Sauber near the end of the 2006 season. By taking part in the Friday practice for the 2006 Turkish Grand Prix, Vettel became the youngest-ever F1 driver to drive at a Grand Prix event at 19 years and 53 days old. Vettel finished as the runner-up to champion Paul di Resta in the 2005 F3 Euroseries, and made his Formula 1 debut at the 2007 United States Grand Prix after filling in for the injured Robert Kubica. In late July 2007, Vettel joined Red Bull’s Scuderia Toro Rosso team to replace Scott Speed. His first race with the team was the Hungarian Grand Prix.
