Belgian Grand Prix Preview

- Lewis Hamilton holds a six-point lead on Felipe Massa in the drivers championship heading into Formula One's Belgian Grand Prix on September 7.

Massa, though, is coming off a victory in the European Grand Prix on August 24. Hamilton finished second in that race, followed by Robert Kubica, Heikki Kovalainen, and Jarno Trulli. Sebastian Vettel, Timo Glock, and Nico Rosberg rounded out the day's Top 8.

Kimi Raikkonen had engine trouble in the European Grand Prix, and completed only 45 of the 57 laps. That dropped Raikkonen into third place in the standings; Hamilton has 70 points, Massa 64, and Raikkonen 57.

Kubica (55), Kovalainen (43), Nick Heidfeld (41), Trulli (26), and Fernando Alonso (18) follow the top three drivers in the current standings. Heidfeld finished ninth in the European Grand Prix, while Alonso was knocked out of the event on the first lap after an accident.

Team Ferrari (Massa and Raikkonen) now has a 121-113 lead on McLaren-Mercedes (Hamilton and Kovalainen) in the constructors championship. BMW Sauber (Kubica and Heidfeld) is in third place in those standings with 96 points.

Raikkonen won the Belgian Grand Prix last year, beating Massa and Alonso to the finish line. Hamilton, Heidfeld, Rosberg, Mark Webber, and Kovalainen made up the rest of the Top 8 and collected drivers championship points at that event.

After racing in Belgium the drivers of Formula One will head to Italy for the Italian Grand Prix on September 14. The series will then close out its season with races in Singapore, Japan, China, and Brazil.
