TUMS QuikPak 500 Preview

- Jeff Burton will continue his assault on top spot in the driver standings on Sunday afternoon when the Sprint Cup Series hits Martinsville for the TUMS QuikPak 500.

Burton took the checkered flag in the Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway last weekend, which moved him to within 69 points of Jimmie Johnson for first place in the Cup standings. Johnson had to settle for a sixth-place result at Lowe's.

Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, and David Ragan rounded out the Top 10 at Lowe's. Tony Stewart was 11th, Clint Bowyer was 12th, Kevin Harvick was 13th, Denny Hamlin was 16th, Carl Edwards was 33rd, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 36th, and Matt Kenseth was 41st.

Biffle sits in third place in the current driver standings, 86 points behind Johnson. Edwards dropped two spots into fourth after his poor result at Lowe's; he's now 168 points back of the leader. Bowyer, Harvick, Stewart, Gordon, Kyle Busch, Earnhardt Jr., Kenseth, and Hamlin round out the standings' Top 12.

Gordon has had the most success at Martinsville - he's earned seven Cup wins at the track in his career, most recently in 2005. Johnson won both Martinsville races in 2007, and he also took the checkered flag there in both 2006 and 2004.

Hamlin won the Goody's Cool Orange 500 at Martinsville back in March, while Stewart won there in 2006 and 2000. Other drivers with Cup wins at Martinsville in their careers include Burton, Kurt Busch, and Mark Martin.

After racing at Martinsville the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will move on to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Pep Boys Auto 500. The NASCAR season will then conclude with races at Texas (Dickies 500), Phoenix (Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500), and Homestead-Miami (Ford 400).
